Abstract

Discrete Fourier Transform-spread Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (DFT-s-OFDM) features lower peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) than OFDM, with substantial benefits in terms of power efficiency. However, as it is susceptible to phase noise, a slight phase rotation may cause great reduction of system performance. In this paper, we focus on channel estimation stage and formulate a phase tracking reference signal (PTRS) assisted solutions for phase noise compensation for DFT-s-OFDM waveforms in MIMO system. In order to reduce overhead, we allow PTRS shares the same precoder as the antenna port (AP) of demodulation reference signal (DMRS) with the strongest signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR). PTRS inserted in both time domain and frequency domain are also devised to track the phase shift. Numerical simulation results corroborate the feasibility of the proposed precoding scheme, as it alleviates the effect of phase noise and achieves excellent error performance. Further more, both PTRS insertion schemes are able to provide substantially improved throughput of system.
