Abstract

Dispersion properties of single-mode optical fibers in the 1.3-1.7-μm region of minimum chromatic dispersion are of great interest for high bandwidth optical communication.1 This paper describes an interesting application of the minimum chromatic dispersion characteristics in nonlinear optics. We report frequency conversion by stimulated four-photon mixing in single-mode fibers in which the phase-matching is achieved mainly by using the refractive-index slope change around the .minimum material dispersion region.
