Abstract

A new method to obtain phase information about the surface structure factors is proposed. It is based on the simple expression for the intensities of superlattice reflections from a solid surface, which was obtained by taking into account the successive scatterings in the surface layers and the bulk. The most significant advantage of this method is that phase information can be obtained without using structure models.
