Abstract
A contract has been awarded for investigation of (a) the volumetric properties of gases typical of those produced in coal gasification operations and (b) the vapor-liquid equilibrium behavior of mixtures typical of those occurring in the processing of coal-derived fluids. Data acquisition has proceeded on gas volumetric properties using the Burnett apparatus. Pure component compressibilities and virial coefficients were determined for He, H/sub 2/, CH/sub 4/, CO and CO/sub 2/ at 100/sup 0/C. Vapor-liquid equilibrium measurements at 220 and 400/sup 0/F were made on the binary system methane-decane using the variable-volume, windowed phase equilibrium cell. These data were taken for comparison with data from the literature. Results indicate that the facility is operating reliably, although the chromatograph calibration method requires further refinement.
