Abstract

Vapor–liquid equilibrium (VLE) of acrylonitrile and the solubility of p-bromobenzaldehyde in compressed and/or supercritical carbon dioxide were measured using a synthetic static method with a variable-volume cell with a front sapphire window for visualization of phase transitions. For CO2 + acrylonitrile, the bubble point (BP) and dew point (DP) were verified at temperatures ranging from (303 to 333) K and pressure up to 100 bar. For CO2 + p-bromobenzaldehyde, solid−fluid (SF) transitions were verified at the same temperatures over a pressure range of (90 to 135) bar. The experimental data obtained here (VLE and SFE) were modeled with the Peng–Robinson equation of state (PR-EOS) with the classical quadratic mixing rule. The correlation between experimental and calculated values showed good agreement in both cases.
