Abstract

Ferrous calcium silicate slags are potentially important for future practice in copper converting operations and process, and can be described by the “Cu2O”-FeO-Fe2O3-CaO-SiO2 system. Experimental methods, using the equilibration/quenching/electron probe X-ray microanalysis (EPMA) techniques, have been further developed to investigate the phase equilibria of these slags at copper saturation. Liquidus and solidus data are reported for the primary phase fields of spinel and pseudo-wollastonite at 1250 °C and 1300 °C, and at an oxygen partial pressure of 10−6 atm. The resulting data have been used to construct liquidus and solidus isotherms in the “FeO”-CaO-SiO2 system in equilibrium with metallic copper.
