Abstract

Continuous thermodynamics is applied to phase-equilibrium calculations for mixtures of fatty alcohols as an example of industrial interest. The use of Γ-distributions together with the method of Laguerre-Gaussian quadrature is tested with flash calculations of systems containing methanol and a homologous series of long chain n-alcohols and with simulation of a two-column separation of alcohols. The determination of physical properties of the continuous component is discussed.
