Abstract

The principle of ∆-modulation has been leveraged in time-domain to cancel the nonlinearity of voltage to frequency transfer function in VCO-based ADCs. The proposed modulation technique features frequency-tracking loop (FTL) to compensate for the imperfection of frequency nonlinearities and to eliminate the analog Op-Amp. Injection locking is used to alleviate the mismatch effect between the feedforward and feedback paths. The circuit level design and simulation results validate the functionality. The proposed solution can achieve higher noise shaping orders and better resolutions without compromising the hardware complexity by using fully synthesizable digital accumulators.
