Abstract
A finite cluster approximation based on a single cluster theory is developed for a ferrimagnetic mixed spin-1/2 and spin-1 Blume-Capel model with four-spin interaction J4 and next-nearest neighbor couplings J’. The state equations are derived for the two-dimensional square lattice and the phase diagram is explored. We found that the system can exhibits both critical and tricritical behavior according to appropriate values of J’, D and J4.
