Abstract

Phase diagram of the CuOMoO 3 system has been determined by using differential thermal analysis and thermomanometric analysis. Argumentation includes the results of our previous studies based on X-ray phase analysis, chemical analysis and several other methods. CuMoO 4 and Cu 3Mo 2O 9 are identified as compounds stable in air up to 820 and 855°C, respectively. Above these temperatures both salts decompose with evolution of oxygen and melting of the reduction product. Thus we deal with movement into the Cu 2 OCuOMoO 3 system. In the MoO 3CuMoO 4 portion of the diagram the temperature of decomposition and melting is constant (710°C in air) due to the occurrence of eutectic in the system Cu 2OCuOMoO 3 at the composition of about 80 mol % MoO 3. The system CuOMoO 3 is thus stable only below the solidus line, the position of which along the axis of temperature being dependent on the oxygen pressure.
