Abstract

We propose a scheme for achieving an electromagnetically induced grating in an extended Λ-type system with two extra control fields and an additional energy level. It is observed that a weak probe field can effectively be diffracted into high-order directions by the system. A nearly ideal phase grating can then be realized by properly adjusting the frequency detuning of probe field, the intensity of the standing-wave field and the collective phase between the applied fields.
