Abstract

Switched antenna array (SAA) frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar is attracting critical attention due to its low-cost and straightforward architecture. However, the phase distortion problem limits its application in the direction estimation of moving targets. To address this problem, we propose a phase compensation method based on reference-element in this letter. First, we adopt a new switching scheme to receive echo signals, then the two chirps received by the reference-element are processed to obtain the motion-induced phase. Finally, the phase compensation is achieved through basic signal processing. The feasibility of the proposed method is validated by simulation and measurement results.
