Abstract

We consider phase behaviors of smectic-A liquid crystal/linear polymer systems. We combine Maier–Saupe–McMillan theory for an anisotropic mixing with a modified double lattice model for an isotropic mixing. To account for highly oriented interactions between segments, the secondary lattice is employed. Calculated values using the proposed model show a remarkably good agreement with experimental data for the given systems.
