Abstract

Phase and structural changes occurring in a superplastic Pb-62% Sn alloy under preliminary deformation by 70–75% reduction on a hydraulic press have been studied. X-ray diffraction and electron-microscopic investigations of the alloy in the cast, deformed, and aged states have been carried out. It has been revealed for the first time that preliminary plastic deformation by reduction not only refines the structure, but also changes the phase state of the alloy due to a redistribution of its components occurring in this process in the direction of applied compressive stresses.
