Abstract
In Response: As suggested by Dr. Thangaswamy,1 we reanalyzed our data according to whether cuff pressure was greater or <60 cm H2O. In patients receiving propofol, there were 84 and 82 patients in whom the cuff pressure was less than or greater than 60 cm H2O, respectively. In patients receiving thiopental, the number of patients in whom cuff pressure was less than or greater than 60 cm H2O was 83 and 86, respectively. By χ2 test, the two-tailed P value is 0.872. In other words, intracuff pressure did not appear to be the important factor affecting the incidence of sore throat. Regarding the possible influence of nitrous oxide, our patients breathed only sevoflurane in oxygen.
