Abstract
The Director's Forum series is designed to guide pharmacy leaders in establishing patient-centered services in hospitals and health systems. For those pharmacy directors with residency training programs, September often signifies the beginning of the residency research project, because the residents have become acclimated to their environment, their residency expectations, and the department's operations. Due to the potential complexity of the residency research project, planning and starting the project needs to begin in the first week of the residency if the goal is to complete and publish the project during the residency year. This article of the Director's Forum provides tips on completing and submitting a residency research project before the end of the residency year. In addition, this article provides the residency program director and the director of pharmacy with a timeline that, if followed, will improve the efficiency and the quality of the residency research project. The completion of a research project and its submission for peer-reviewed journal publication enhances the professional aspects of the residency program while providing the residents with life-long effective problem-solving skills.
