Abstract

In the review the evolution of pharmacotherapy of obesity is described, beginning with gerbal preparations, thyroid hormones and sympathomimetics and ending serotonergic agents, lipase inhibitors, peptide analogs and combined drugs. Approved drugs for the treatment of obesity, such as orlistat, lorcaserine, liraglutide, and combinations of phentermine/topiramat and naltrexone/bupropion are presented. Concluded that the most perspective drugs for the treatment of obesity in the future will be combinations of preparations with different mechanisms of action.
