Abstract

The second article in this series will consider the respiratory system with a focus on inhalation medicines. Initially the article provides an overview of the important anatomical features of the respiratory system and then concentrates on some key drugs used to treat the most well-known respiratory diseases. According to the British Thoracic Society (2006) 51000000 prescriptions were issued in England in 2004 and 50% of these were bronchodilators used in the treatment of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
