Abstract

The influence of different CNS drugs on the hyperthermic response induced by 5 mg/kg i.p. amphetamine in rats has been investigated. An inhibition was found with chlorpromazine and with other neuroleptic agents, but at higher dose levels than for the inhibition of stereotyped behavior. The various modifications induced by reserpine depended on the time of pretreatment. An enhancement of the peak hyperthermic effect was induced by central anticholinergic agents, and occasionally by thymoleptic drugs. Antidepressant agents characteristically prolonged amphetamine effects.
