Abstract

Abstract Aggressive behavior is frequently observed in general psychiatry, and pharmacotherapy is often used to manage aggressive behavior both acutely and in patients showing repeated aggression. In this chapter, we systematically review the evidence for the pharmacological management of aggression in acute situations and for maintenance of treatment. Evidence from randomized controlled trials regarding the effectiveness of pharmacotherapy in treatment of aggression in psychiatric patients is weak. Recommendations for the pharmacological management of aggression are made.
