Abstract
In order to evaluate the pharmacokinetics of ceftriaxone (Rocephin) in serum and gynecological tissues, intravenous injections of 2 g of ceftriaxone were administered to 3 groups, numbering 6 patients each, at 2-, 12-, and 24-hour intervals prior to surgery (hysterectomy and annexectomy) for noninfectious pathology. Even 24 h after intravenous administration of 2 g of ceftriaxone, both serum and gynecological tissue concentrations are well above the MIC90 for the majority of pathogens responsible for gynecological infections excepting Streptococcus faecalis and Bacteroides fragilis.
