Abstract

A sustained-release property of gelatin microcapsules of piretanide was evaluated by pharmacodynamic parameters. The gelatin microcapsules of piretanide showed long-lasting, slow-release properties, when compared with its ordinary tablet form in the plasma piretanide level, piretanide excretion rate, urine excretion rate and urinary electrolyte (Na+, K+, Cl-) excretion rate without any loss in diuretic and saluretic activities, which fully satisfied the criteria for a sustained-release preparation.
