Abstract

Launaea sarmentosa (Willd.) schultz-bip.ex Kuntze (Family Asteraceae) commonly known as Sagar Pathari by several tribal communities in Maharashtra. The plant leaves used by traditional healers for Anti-inflammatory activity, rheumatoid arthritis, skin disorders etc. This plant has never been scientifically documented. Natives and traditional medical practitioners are the sole sources of information available. The information on leaves in terms of pharmacognostic and phytochemical identification will be provided in this study. Upper epidermis, lower epidermis, vascular bundles, mesophyll, palisade, and cuticle are visible on a microscopic level in the leaves. Qualitative analysis was carried out, including ash value, sulphated ash value, water insoluble value, and so on. Flavonoids, glycosides, tannins and phenolic compounds, proteins, amino acids and other chemicals have been detected in preliminary phytochemical screening.
