Abstract

Background: CD33 is mainly expressed in immune cells including macrophages and microglia, and causes inhibitory signal through the Src homology region 2 domain-containing protein tyrosine phosphatase-1 (SHP-1). CD33 variant is identified as a genetic risk for late-onset Alzheimer’s disease, and is linked to phagocytic capacity of amyloid β (Aβ).
