Abstract

For many experiments in microbial and molecular genetics, large quantities of bacteria and highly purified phage stocks are necessary. Generally, culturing of bacteria causes no methodological difficulties, provided that suitable culture vessels and a centrifuge of an adequate capacity are at hand. The growth, concentration and purification of phages, however, is more complex. Therefore in the following three experiments we want to demonstrate these methods for phage T4. T4 serves as an example and is representative for many other phages.
