Abstract

The important exotic conifer root and butt rot pathogen Phaeolus schweinitzii is confirmed from Melbourne and adjacent areas in Victoria, Australia. The fungus is associated with death of species of Pinus of mature age. Previous records of P. schweinitzii from Australia are apparently based on misidentifications. The significance of this incursion for future plant quarantine policy is discussed.
