Abstract

In recent years, the use conditions of vehicle on-board electrical equipment have become severe. Accordingly, the use of PFPE lubricating greases in vehicle on-board electrical equipment has increased. However, the friction characteristics of PFPE lubricating greases under such conditions have not been clarified. In this study, we used a bearing testing machine to determine the friction characteristics observed when a needle bearing filled with PFPE lubricating grease was placed in a humidified environment. As a result, the following was found as the effects of ambient humidity on the friction characteristics of needle bearings: Between a relative humidity of 10% to 50%, the coefficient of friction increases as the humidity increases, showing a significant change, and this change of characteristics is related to tribochemical reaction.
