Abstract
Treatment of processes in the petrous apex are demanding if functional preservation is attempted. We report our experience in diagnosing and treating petrous apex cholesteatomas, meningoceles, cholesterol granulomas, meningiomas, neuromas of the trigeminal nerve, and Gradenigo's syndrome. In a few cases, an interdisciplinary approach with neurosurgeons was necessary; other cases could be treated via a middle fossa or an infralabyrinthine approach. Preoperative considerations and diagnostic procedures including imaging, angiography, and outcome will be discussed.
