In the 1960s, the discovery of a continuous Mid-Ocean Ridge (MOR) volcanic system rocked the geologic world. The MOR snakes through the seafloor as its constant, active eruptions give birth to seafloor spreading centers along the central axis of tectonic plates. For many years, the axis of the MOR has been subject to intense study because of its known active status.
