Abstract
Petroleum production in Middle East countries in 1970 totaled 5,064,946,000 bbl at an average rate of 13,876,564 b/d, compared with 4,525,475,000 bbl or 12,398,561 b/d in 1969. The principal production increases were in Iran, Kuwait, the Neutral Zone, Saudi Arabia, and Abu Dhabi. New fields were found in Iran, Abu Dhabi, and Dubai, and a new field was under development in Oman. There were no exploratory activities in the Neutral Zone, Bahrain, Al Fujairah, Hadramaut-Mahra Sultanate, or Lebanon. The main areas of exploratory work were in Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and the southern Gulf (both onshore and offshore).
