Abstract
Petroleum development activities during 1955 in the Far East have been retarded by the uncertain political situation in Indonesia and unstable political conditions in other areas. The full significance of the results of the Indonesian national election is not yet clear but some optimism has been manifested by oil companies operating there. Australia has had another disappointing year in the search for major oil production. Generally there has been little change, during 1955, in the Far East from the level of production and operations reached in 1954. The crude-oil production of the Far East is estimated to have been at the average of 392,223 barrels per day during 1955 as compared with 364,253 barrels per day in 1954. This increase of 27,970 barrels per day can be account d for by stepped-up production in the established fields of Sumatra and British Borneo.
