To the Editor: During an ongoing analysis of our randomized trial of the use of combined positron-emission tomography and computed tomography (PET–CT) in the preoperative staging of non–small-cell lung cancer (July 2, 2009, issue),1 we discovered an error in the reported data.2 Three patients who were randomly assigned to the PET–CT group and who were initially coded as having undergone PET–CT did not receive this diagnostic test. The primary end point of our study was the number of futile thoracotomies that had been performed, as determined by the intention-to-treat analysis.
