Abstract
Fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG)-positron emission tomography (PET) and PET that is used in combination with computerized tomography (CT), which is based on conventional X rays arrayed in three dimensions, are powerful imaging methods that can overcome several shortcomings of other noninvasive imaging techniques when detecting infections and sites of inflammation in patients. These powerful techniques are already proving helpful for clinicians treating patients who are infected with a range of pathogenic microorganisms.
