AbstractAbout 80 species of insect pests have been recorded on guava, but only a few of them had been identified as pest of regular occurrence and cause serious damage. Guava plants are found attacked chiefly by tea mosquito bug Helopeltis antonii; mealybugs Ferrisia virgata, Maconellicoccus hirsutus, Planococcus citri, Planococcus lilacinus and Rastrococcus iceryoides; green shield scale Pulvinaria psidii; fruit flies Bactrocera zonata, Bactrocera dorsalis and Bactrocera correcta; pomegranate fruit borer Virachola isocrates; castor capsule borer Conogethes punctiferalis; bark-eating caterpillars Indarbela quadrinotata and Indarbela tetraonis; stem borer Aristobia testudo; trunk borer Batocera rufomaculata; shoot borer Microcolona technographa; spiralling whitefly Aleurodicus dispersus and Aphis gossypii; and wax scale Drepanococcus chiton, Selenothrips rubrocinctus and Rhipiphorothrips cruentatus.
