Abstract
In a survey of pesticide usage by Scottish pig farmers during 1979, chemical control measures were found to be used by 74% against lice and mange, by 56% against flies and by 88% against rodents. Gamma HCH was the most commonly used pesticide for the control of lice and mange, usually on a routine prophylactic basis. Flies were particularly troublesome, especially in farrowing houses, and there was a wide variation in both the chemicals and the formulations; trichlorphon as a bait and pyrethrin space sprays were most commonly used. Usage of most of the available rodenticides was recorded, with warfarin and coumatetralyl the most prominent.
