Abstract

The time differential perturbed angular correlation of 111Cd has been measured after implantation of the radioactive mother isotope 111In into Co3O4. Besides a broad distribution of electric field gradients ((vQC)=105(5) MHz, eta C=0.8(1)) two fractions with vQA=0 and vQB=145 MHz, eta B<0.15 are found which have been associated with 111In on substitutional A and B sites of the spinel lattice. During isochronal annealings at various oxygen partial pressures, the distribution widths delta A and delta B and the asymmetry parameter eta B approach zero; simultaneously, vQB slightly decreases. The changes are correlated and quantitatively explained in the point charge model.
