Abstract

This essay analyzes the socio-structural conditions of clinical pastoral care and describes the special potential of pastoral care in the hospital. Religion and medicine are related to each other but follow different perspectives. That is why it seems to be problematic to integrate pastoral care as fourth column in the health care system as the concept of spiritual care suggests. The concept of spiritual care might make sense in a palliative care unit, because palliative care is itself at the fringe of the health care system.
