Abstract

Kawasan Rukun Tetangga (KRT) has existed in Malaysia since 1975. Since its establishment, KRT has played a role in safeguarding the safety of the local community and has experienced a phase of change which is to become a medium of unity among communities of various ethnicities through organized activities. In this regard, students are a group that is often associated with activities organized by KRT in developing the leadership skills. The objective of this study is to identify the students’ perspective towards KRT of their own place of residence in forming the spirit of leadership. Therefore, a set of questionnaires was conducted as a research instrument involving a study sample of 120 students of Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI). Data were analysed using the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) computer software version 23.0. Results found the level of agreement among students on leadership skills is high of which the total mean is 4.08. This found that there is still an awareness of the importance of leadership skills among students. In order to ensure that the impact of the implementation of KRT activities on strengthening leadership skills in residential areas continues to be successful, all parties must join hands and unite in intensifying the implementation of KRT activities.
