Abstract

This research is aimed to identify the perspective of gender on the aspects of domestic, social, and productivity (farming) in decision making and tasks’ division amongst men and women on the seaweed farming business, as well as female farmer’s both internal and external motivation in playing their roles in seaweed farming business. The research was done at Kelurahan Bintarore Sub-district of Ujungbulu and Jalanjang Sub-district of Gantarang Kindang District of Bulukumba, by collecting 30 samples of female seaweed farmers who run the seaweed farming business with their husband. This study is conducted by analyzing gender’s perspective on the pattern of decision making and tasks’ division in the aspects of domestic, public/social and farming. The research resulted a gender equality on productive activities (seaweed farming business) on the pre-farming business, post-harvesting, and marketing. On the aspect of household (domestic), there is gender equality in all activities (house management, child’s school, religious education, family’s health) except financial arrangement the wife have full role than their husband. On the aspect of social/public, gender equality was shown in all activities, except mutual cooperation and PKK program in which it only involves one party’s role (husband or wife). Productive aspect of the woman farmer focus on binding the seedlings on the ris rope and drying.Domestic aspect of the husband helps the wife involved in household activities and gender equality occurs. Social aspect provides participation and the role of women to be active in community activities.
