Abstract

First, a word about the present reform movement. It is a national educational movement, with great momentum. It is concerned with subject matter, objectives, and the psychology of learning. Some proponents have called it a revolution, in which the new is giving battle with the traditional. Members of profession are asking, “Do you teach the new mathematics or the old? Do you employ the new theory of learning or the old? Are you modem or traditional?" But more about this dichotomy later.
