Abstract

Abstract There is a philosophical dream, a dream that moral and political ideals are not only grounded in and explained by human nature, but that fundamental moral and political principles can be derived from the narrower conditions that define persons. Though some-times bold and wild dreamers do go so far, this dream does not usually express a metaphysical wish that could be satisfied by analysing the conditions for reflective subjectivity or the psycho linguistic conditions for the reflexivity of first-person attributions. More commonly, the dream is that normative political and moral principles can be derived from what is essential to the concept of a person.
