Abstract

This chapter is a case study of how authentic assessment is used at Camberwell Girls Grammar School, Melbourne, Australia, specifically in sport science. The design of the unit is based on Understanding by Design and is focused on delivering personalised learning through authenticity in learning and assessment. According to Melbourne Declaration on Educational Goals for Young Australians, for young people to be successful learners, their teachers need to provide personalised learning that aims to fulfil the diverse capabilities and interests of each student. The principles underpinning personalised learning are quality teaching and learning; consultation; collaborative practice and planning. Knowing the student's background, strengths, interests and goals is crucial for educators implementing a successful personalised learning agenda. Students of the Exercise Sport Science course are guided by their teacher through a series of learning modules which comprise different aspects of sport science theory that have relevance and inspiration for each and every different physical pursuit that aligns with a student's interest.
