Abstract

Responding to the increasing need for higher safety and security in road freight transport, and to targeted legislation requiring freight drivers’ rest areas, this paper proposes a plan for deployment of safe and secure parking areas using personalised information from truck drivers. Disaggregate analysis with a combined stated preference and revealed preference approach leads to a specification for estimating the parking selection by the truck driver. The concept builds upon the upgrading of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) infrastructure systems while integrating novel transport and logistic needs, and achieving this goal in an operationally safe, secure and efficient environment for the supply chain. Pilot implementation has included truck drivers who are looking to park in motorways in Greece.
