Abstract

Personal computers - IBM PC-AT compatibles - are extensively used in the LEP control system. They are used as process-control computers, as operator consoles, as gateways or bridges and as dedicated servers. All PCs are networked onto a system of interconnected token rings and most of them are running XENIX. This paper describes the organization of this large quantity of PCs, including hardware and software management. Achieved performance and operational reliability will also be reviewed.
