Abstract

This article analyses and discusses the microcomputer technology and underlines the scope of microcomputers for the automation of public services, administrative activities and technical operations in libraries with special reference to the application of micros in small public libraries. the reduction in hardware prices has resulted in the rapidly increasing demand for software packages therby making it expedient for libraries to choose economically viable micros. The author lays stress on librarians to become familiar with the latest information technology for the effective functioning of small libraries and equip themselves for active participation in the international communication systems.
