Abstract

Wireless telecommunications, and most notably personal communications through wireless networks such as cellular systems, is going through an explosive growth period. Currently there are over 11 million cellular subscribers throughout the world with over 6.4 million of those subscribers in the United States alone. The “Personal Communications Network (PCN)” is believed to be the next major step in the evolution of wireless telecommunications networks. MOTOROLA has projected [1] that by the year 2000 there will be over 100 million cellular and PCN service subscribers and by the year 2010 that number to increase to over 450 million worldwide. In the U.S., it is now widely believed that the first generation “Advanced Wireless Technologies” and “Personal Communications Network (PCN)” services will be provided by the cellular carriers using the next generation digital cellular system infrastructure and the cellular frequencies as a straightforward extension of the cellular system.KeywordsCode Division Multiple AccessFederal Communication CommissionCode Division Multiple Access SystemPublic Switch Telephone NetworkPersonal Communication ServiceThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
