Abstract

The place of teacher-pupil relations on a person-to-person level has received little attention from either psychologists or educators. This is true in spite of the obvious importance of this relationship in regard to the per sonality development and the learning of the child. In recognition of the importance of this personal relationship in any school situation the writer has attempted to make an objective study of it. The major question, for which an answer was desired, was: What influence does the person-person interaction between the high school teacher and the pupils have upon the ability of the high school teacher to teach these pupils? Supplementary to this major problem an attempt was made to answer several other questions, but these will be discussed in a later section of this paper. In order to answer the question at hand it was necessary to develop some method of rating or measuring the person-person interaction between teachers and pupils.
