Abstract

Person perception is the process by which people form impressions of others. These impressions are often based on individuals’ appearance, and much of the research has focused on the role of attractiveness in the formation of impressions. Researchers have designed studies to investigate whether people of different cultures form impressions in similar ways. Although a large multi‐culture meta‐analysis found broad agreement on judgments of attractiveness across cultures, people in different cultures do not always agree on what physical features they consider attractive or on the relation of attractiveness to other important psychological characteristics.
