Abstract

Human resources are a critical source of growth for businesses in maritime industries. However, to optimize human resources in maritime industries, knowledge, skills, and abilities must align with the organization’s needs. This research aims at analyzing the impact of person-job fit on seafarers’ job satisfaction. This research used a quantitative approach with purposive sampling in data collection. The respondents were 380 graduates of Jakarta Merchant Marine College located in Indonesia. One of Maritime Education and Training under the Ministry of Transportation, with the core business for increasing the number of qualified seafarer graduates according to national and international regulations. A questionnaire was conducted to collect data. It used the Job Description Index in measuring job satisfaction. Person Job Fit was measured by using needs-supplies fit, and demands-abilities fit. The questionnaire consisted of 22 indicator items. Data were analyzed by using the structural equation model (SEM) with Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) program, 22nd version, and PLS for Structural Equation Modelling (SEM). The result showed a positive and significant impact of person-job fit on seafarers’ job satisfaction. It implicated seafarers in ranks and responsibilities appropriate for educational levels that would work well and formed positive relationships.
