Abstract

Although reoviruses rarely cause illness in man, these viruses have been recovered commonly from feces, and occasionally from the nasal and pharyngeal swabs of naturally infected people [1, p. 573-574]. However, excretion of reovirus in urine has not been reported previously. A patient with advanced Hodgkin's disease who exhibited persistent viruria due to reovirus type 1 is presented. Viruria occurred during treatment with cytotoxic drugs and glucocortocoids under conditions of antimicrobial prophylaxis immediately before and during confinement in a protected environment.
